KANSAS CITY, Mo./CHICAGO -- University of St. Francis garnered a total of eight women's basketball all-academic selections when the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its winter academic honor roll on Tuesday. Six of those named were also chosen as NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
Laurelei Thormeyer, a graduate senior seeking a Master's degree in Business Analytics, and
Coryn Fromm, a sophomore English major, were two of only four players among the 51 individuals dotting the league list to boast a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average. Thormeyer captured both the NAIA and CCAC recognition for the third consecutive year, while Fromm received both accolades for the first time.
Joining Thormeyer and Fromm as NAIA Scholar-Athletes were
Le'lani Harris,
Symone Harrell,
Mariah Pates and
Taylor Schergen.
Harris gained status as a NAIA Scholar-Athlete for the third time in her career, while also boasting CCAC All-Academic Team membership for the third time. She is a senior guard working on a degree in Marketing.
Harrell, Pates and Schergen each received their first recognition for both awards this year. Harrell, a sophomore guard, is seeking an undergraduate degree in Radiography, while Pates, a sophomore center, is pursuing a degree in Criminal & Social Justice. Schergen, a sophomore guard, is majoring in Special Education.
A total of 926 student-athletes representing 181 schools gained NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors when they were announced by the national office on Tuesday.
In order to garner that status, nominees must be a sophomore or above in academic standing, must have been in attendance at their nominating institution for one full academic year and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher at the time of the nomination deadline.
That four-person contingent was also part of a pair of other Saints to claim a spot on the CCAC Women's Basketball All-Academic Team. The other two honorees were
Tykara Harrison and
Mia Kennelly.
This year marks Kennelly's third league recognition, while it was the second for Harrison. Kennelly is a junior guard majoring in Nursing. Harrison, a senior guard, is a Recreation & Sport Management major.
A total of 65 student-athletes representing 12 schools gained the CCAC all-academic accolades. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must have been enrolled at her school for a minimum of one academic year, have completed at least 30 semester hours and boast no less than a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
