Six Competitive Dancers Receive All-Academic Recognition

KANSAS CITY, Mo./St. LOUIS, Mo. -- In its second year of membership in the American Midwest Conference, the University of St. Francis competitive dance team garnered a total of six all-academic selections when the AMC announced its winter academic honor roll on Tuesday morning.  Four of those named were also chosen as NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Alyssa Hoffman and Kathleen Norton each secured NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors for the third time in their careers, while picking up AMC accolades for the second time.  Hoffman is a junior Elementary Education major, while Norton is a junior majoring in Political Science.

Joining Hoffman and Norton as NAIA Scholar-Athletes were Anna Bremer and Cierra Cosentino.

Bremer and Cosentino each earned their first recognition as NAIA Scholar-Athletes and second AMC All-Academic Team members this season.  Bremer, a sophomore, is pursuing a degree in Psychology.  Cosentino, a senior, is also majoring in Psychology.

A total of 161 student-athletes representing 42 schools gained NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors when they were announced by the national office on Tuesday.

In order to gain that status, nominees must be a sophomore or above in academic standing, must have been in attendance at their nominating institution for one full academic year and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher at the time of the nomination deadline.

The quartet were joined by a pair of other Saints on the AMC All-Academic Team.  The other two honorees were Aleksandria Potoczny and Stefanie Schellhorn.

This year marks Potoczny's and Schellhorn's second league recognition.  Potoczny is a senior majoring in Biology.  Schellhorn, a senior, is a Nursing major.

A total of 31 student-athletes representing seven schools gained AMC All-Academic accolades when they were announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

To be nominated for the AMC award, a student-athlete must have been enrolled at her school for a minimum of one academic year, have completed at least 12 semester hours and boast no less than a 3.00 cumulative grade point average.
