ADDISON, Ill. -- The University of St. Francis men's bowling team returned from a three-week break to compete in the 18th Annual Storm Baker Challenge. The two-day tournament, hosted by Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill., concluded on Sunday.
The Saints posted an overall pin total of 7,986 over 40 Baker games to capture second place in the qualifying round of the 10-team field. Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) placed first overall - knocking down 8,428 pins - while Rock Valley College came in third with a 7,800 total. Midway University (Ky.) rounded out the qualifying bracket with its 7,443 finish.
After defeating Rock Valley in match play, the Saints later went on to defeat Calumet St. Joseph for the tournament crown.
On the reserve front, USF's second team gained first-place honors out of six squads in the qualifying round with its 7,464-pin count over 40 Baker games. Facing off against Calumet St. Joseph in match play, the Saints defeated the Crimson Wave to secure the tournament championship.
