STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. -- The University of St. Francis varsity men's bowling team claimed a third-place finish out of 11 teams at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Michigan Open on Saturday, while its reserve squad placed fifth following three traditional and 16 Baker games.
USF knocked down a total of 2,924 pins in three regular contests and 3,208 over 16 Baker games for a total pin count of 6,132. Claiming the meet crown was Indiana Tech with 6,367 pins dropped. Lawrence Tech (Mich.) captured runner-up honors with its 6,273-pin fall.
In the individual competition,
Jalen Pfaff was St. Francis' top finisher, placing third overall in a field of 125 bowlers. He dropped 670 pins over the three games, including a high game of 232, for an average round of 223.3. Pfaff was named to the All-Tournament Team for his efforts.Â
Dylan Holtz finished second behind Pfaff on the varsity team and 12th overall, totaling 654 pins.Â
Christopher Bald was third in line among USF varsity competitors, averaging 199.3 with his total of 598.
Lawrence Tech's Michael Martins was the top individual performer with his 241.7 average. He totaled 725 pins knocked down.
On the junior varsity front, USF's team gained fifth-place honors out of nine squads with its 5,601-pin count.Â
Spencer Bruinsma headlined all reserve team competitors with his 607-pin total (202.3 average). Among all bowlers, both varsity and reserve, that was the 21st-best effort on the day.Â
Joseph Koc finished second behind Bruinsma and 53rd overall with his total of 539 (179.7 average).

The Saints return to action on Thursday, Dec. 18 when they travel to Las Vegas, Nev. to compete in the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational. The two-day event will conclude on Dec. 19.
