JOLIET, Ill. -- Fueled by career-highs from both
Symone Harrell and
Zhane Singer, the University of St. Francis women's basketball team grabbed its fourteenth straight victory of the season, beating Madonna University (Mich.) 97-44 on Saturday afternoon. Following the win, the Fighting Saints advanced their overall record to a perfect 14-0 on the season.
Along with Harrell and Singer, two other Saints reached double figures with five additional players contributing to the scoring column. Harrell shot 8-of-17 from the field in netting 20 points to go along with nine boards and four assists. Singer added her 16 points off of a 7-of-8 shooting performance with a game-high 12 rebounds in 17 minutes for her first double-double of the season.
Le'lani Harris provided 13 markers to the team's total, while
Coryn Fromm chipped in 12 points of her own.
Defensively,
Mariah Pates rejected a game-high four blocked shots, while
Riley Cwinski and
Mia Kennelly each collected three steals apiece.
Lizzy Liedel (11 points, three assists) was the only player to reach double figures for Madonna.
A 14-2 run at the start of the contest and carrying to the middle of the first quarter put the game out of reach from the get-go as the Saints never fell below a double-digit lead from that point forward. St. Francis carried a 52-21 advantage into the halftime break and extended its lead to 42 points at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, USF eclipsed the 50-point marker at the 7:52 mark with a successful layup from Singer and extended the lead to as high as 54 points before settling for a 97-44 final score.
The Saints also held a commanding 58-28 advantage on the boards over the Crusaders (4-9).
