ROCKFORD, Ill. --
Jalen Pfaff placed among the Top 5 bowlers at the 25th Annual Leatherneck Classic on Saturday and Sunday to earn the University of St. Francis men's bowling team a sixth-place finish out of 39 teams competing at the event.
Pfaff placed fourth overall of 457 total competitors courtesy of his 229.8 five-game average, which featured a high round of 257. As a result of his performance, Pfaff was named to the five-member All-Tournament Team.
Gabriel Mejia Wick was 26th at 211.4, topped by a round of 237.
As a team, USF recorded a total of 8,291 pins knocked down between the five individual and 15 Baker games. Mount Mercy University (Iowa) was the No. 1 seed heading into the eight-team bracket round after finishing at 8,550. Seventh-seeded Newman University (Kan.) topped Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in the finals, winning the best-of-five series, 3-2.
On the reserve team front,
Payton Wernet led all JV bowlers with his 48th-place overall finish and 203.8 average. The junior posted 200-plus scores in two of his five games with a high of 244 in his final effort.
Dylan Primdahl placed 58th overall, the highest of USF's other reserve squad, registering a 200.8 average.
Primdahl led the way to his reserve squad's ninth-place team finish (7,656 pins knocked down), while Wernet's reserve unit placed 11th (7,624) among the 30 competing.
