Harrison Nets 1,000th Point In USF’s 80-41 Win Over Huston-Tillotson

JOLIET, Ill. -- Tykara Harrison scored the 1,000th point of her collegiate career as part of a season-high 24 points with two three-pointers as the University of St. Francis women's basketball team ran its winning streak to four games with its 80-41 victory over Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) on Monday night.

As a result of her scoring production, Harrison has now accumulated 1,003 total points in 66 games played while donning a USF uniform (15.2 ppg) and 1,013 overall including her one season at NCAA Division I Southeast Missouri State University.

Aiding the effort in USF's win was the Saints' 15-of-34 shooting mark (.441) after the intermission, led by Harrison's explosion of 14 points during that timeframe.  After going 4-for-9 from the field in the game's first 20 minutes, the senior guard adjusted after the break to post an .800 shooting percentage (4-for-5) from the floor with all of her six free throws coming in the third quarter.  Symone Harrell provided another 11 points and seven rebounds, while Laurelei Thormeyer contributed eight points and two three-pointers.

Huston-Tillotson (1-1) also had two players score in double figures, led by Wilashia Burleson's 21 points and 11 rebounds.

The Saints controlled the first quarter, holding the scoring advantage in their favor throughout the first 10 minutes.  The Rams were able to hold the game to within five points, however, for the first seven and half minutes before a long range dagger from Harrison followed by a layup from Harrell gave the Saints a 10-point lead.  St. Francis would hold down the offensive gas pedal all the way through the second quarter and expand its lead to 19 points, taking a 39-20 score into the halftime intermission.

Harrison would start the second half by scoring 12 of the game's next 19 points capped off with two free throws - the first of which marked the 1,000 point of her USF career - to give the hosts their biggest lead of the quarter at 56-22 with 3:13 remaining in the period.  The Rams fought back by authoring a 7-0 run before Thormeyer and Harrell combined for a three-pointer and two layups, respectively, in the final two minutes to give the Saints a 63-32 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes.

The game remained within a 30-point margin with each team exchanging points through the first five minutes of the fourth quarter.  After an HTU layup marked the score at 70-41 and cut the visitors' deficit to 29 points, the Fighting Saints would explode with a 10-0 run over the game's final four and a half minutes to close the contest with the commanding 80-41 victory.
