Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Saints Extend Unbeaten Streak to Five With 88-48 Win Over Goshen

JOLIET, Ill. -- Le'lani Harris scored a game-high 17 points with two three-pointers and Zhane Singer pulled down a game-high nine rebounds as the University of St. Francis women's basketball team ran its unbeaten winning streak to five games with its 88-48 victory over Goshen College (Ind.) on Wednesday night.

Aiding the effort was the Saints' 10-of-23 shooting effort (.435) during the first 10 minutes, which resulted in the hosts exploding out to a 34-8 lead during that timeframe.  Coryn Fromm (13) and Tykara Harrison (12) combined to provide the Saints with 25 points, while Symone Harrell and Singer finished the game with nine markers apiece.

Goshen (1-5) had one player score in double figures, led by Zy'Ann Phinezy's 12 points.

After St. Francis authored its 26-point lead after the completion of the first quarter, the Maple Leafs were able to close the gap via an 11-0 run to start the second period.  The Saints responded with a 12-6 burst over a four-minute span which turned a 34-17 USF lead into a 46-23 advantage before maintaining a matching 23-point lead (53-30) heading into the halftime break.

St. Francis extended the game's scoring gap to 27 points at the end of the third quarter.  In the fourth quarter, USF eclipsed the 40-point marker with 32 seconds remaining when two successful free throws from Shea Carver finalized the score at 88-48 in the Saints' favor.

Mia Kennelly, who scored all six of her points in the first quarter, also provided a total of six rebounds for the game.  Mariah Pates was another big defensive key for the Saints as the sophomore registered two blocked shots in the contest.  Carver and Laurelei Thormeyer each distributed four assists, as well, for USF on the day.

USF (5-0) held a strong 53-41 advantage on the boards over the Maple Leafs with 14 of its points coming on second-chance opportunities.  The Saints dominated in the paint, outscoring the guests 42-18, and also took advantage of 26 Goshen turnovers, which they turned into 31 points.  St. Francis' bench also outscored the Maple Leaf 44-29.
