Saints Unbeaten Streak Sits At Seven With 82-52 Victory Over Viterbo

JOLIET, Ill. -- A combined 31 points from Tykara Harrison and Le'lani Harris and a strong second-half scoring surge from Baylei Johnson enabled the University of St. Francis women's basketball team to increase their unbeaten streak to seven with a 82-52 victory against Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Viterbo University (Wis.) on Wednesday night at the Pat Sullivan Center.  The win was also the second league victory of the year for the Saints, who know boast a 2-0 conference mark.

The first quarter showcased a back-and-forth battle with neither team being able to pull away from the other for the entirety of the period.  Viterbo's last lead came late in the first frame (21-18) before the Saints rattled off the next 10 points to take the lead for good.  A Mariah Pates layup started the unanswered run with 42 seconds remaining the stanza, while Harrell capped it with a long range three pointer early in the second quarter.  The Saints began to widen their lead throughout the second 10 minutes of play and led by as many as seven points, before Laurelei Thormeyer connected from beyond the arc at the buzzer to take an eight-point edge, 38-30, into the halftime intermission.

After Harris began the third period with a quick three-pointer seven seconds into the second half, the Saints never led by less than double-digits for the remainder of the game.  Johnson made sure it did not get any closer with four baskets down the stretch and a pair of free throws to aid the Saints in extending their lead to 20 points by the end of the third quarter, and balloon the gap to 30 points (82-52) by the end of the game.  Malayah Scott and Shea Carver combined for seven points in the final period.  Carver also got it done on defense, accounting for four rebounds and three steals in her six minutes of work.
