NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The University of St. Francis men's cross country team raced in its second meet of the 2024 season on Friday afternoon at the University of Notre Dame (Ind.) National Catholic Invite and came away with a sixth-place effort in the 11-team field. Two Saints, junior
Scott Crabb and sophomore
Miguel Garcia, posted personal records in the event.
USF, which netted a team score of 197 points, posted five runners in the top half of all competitors on the 8K layout at Burke Golf Course. The field consisted of 155 runners from eight NCAA I and two NCAA II universities, with St. Francis being the lone representative competing from an NAIA institution. Notre Dame earned the team title with its score of 16.
The Saints, who are currently ranked No. 17 in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, were paced by
Michael Reif's 47th-place time of 25:41.90.
Along with Reif, Crabb,
Jack Wright and
Mikey Corcoran all placed among the top 60 spots on the finisher's list. Crabb's PR of 25:50.20 claimed 52nd place, while Wright and Corcoran finished back-to-back with times of 26:03 and 26:04, respectively, affording the runners 58th and 59
th placements.
Rounding out USF's top five finishers was Garcia, who posted a time of 26:07.70 to place 61st.
The meet's individual champion was Carter Soloman of Notre Dame, who ran a 23:40.50 time to best his teammate Daelen Ackley's second-place time of 23:43.40.
Next Up
The Saints will now prepare for the Seminole Valley Stampede, hosted by Mount Mercy University on Saturday, October 5, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The 8K race will be conducted at Seminole Valley Park and will begin at 9:30 am.
