WACO, Texas -- For the third time in his career, University of St. Francis senior quarterback
Sam Tumilty has been selected to the American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) NAIA Coaches' All-America Team. Tumilty was named to the third team at the completion of the 2024 season.
The first-year graduate student was part of a group of 30 individuals across the nation to gain third-team status. The first and second teams were made up of 27 players each.
The Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League Player of the Year for the third time in his career this season, Tumilty finished among the top ten players in the nation in a pair of statistical categories. He ranked third in both rushing touchdowns with 23 and in points scored per game at 14.0.
The 23 rushing touchdowns also established a new school record – breaking his own previous record of 16 set in 2022 – and led the conference. Combining those numbers with his 22 scored during his other two seasons combined put him in first place on USF's all-time list in that category with 61. In terms of total touchdowns (rushing and receiving combined), the 2024 figure was the most in the history of the program for a single season, as well, with his 61 career scores placing him first all-time also.
Tumilty's 140 total points during the 2024 campaign were also tops for a single season in school history and his 368 total points for his career placed him in the No. 1 position.
Among his other 2024 numbers, Tumilty ranked second in the conference in rushing yards per game (86.0), as well as fourth in passing yards per game (217.1) and passing touchdowns (15). His final numbers on the season saw him rush for 860 yards on 149 carries, while going 169-of-265 (.638) through the air for 2,171 yards.
Besides his conference player of the year and AFCA/NAIA All-America honors, Tumilty also earned MSFA Midwest League Offensive Player of the Week accolades four times this season. He finished his career with eight distinctions overall.
USF went 7-3 overall and 3-2 in league play to finish third in the conference. Nationally, they earned a ranking as high as No. 23 during the season.
