KANSAS CITY, Mo./CHICAGO --- Led by four-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete
Alexis Marroquin and three-time selection
Adamari Carrera, the University of St. Francis women's soccer team boasted eight players earning top academic honors with the announcements of both the NAIA Scholar-Athletes and Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for 2024.
Joining Marroquin and Carrera as NAIA Scholar-Athletes were
Maite Bernal,
Abbey Janeczek and
Zoe Villont.
In order to receive that status, nominees must be a sophomore or above in academic standing, must have been in attendance at the nominating institution for one full academic year and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher at the time of the nomination deadline.
That five-person contingent was also part of a group of eight Saints to claim a spot on the CCAC Women's Soccer All-Academic Team. The other three honorees were
Kelly Flores,
Anna Jakubiec and
Kadixamayrin Mireles.
To be nominated for the CCAC award, a student-athlete must have been enrolled at her school for a minimum of one academic year, have completed at least 30 semester hours and boast no less than a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
Marroquin gained status with both awards for the fourth time in her career as a Saint, while Carrera did so for the third time on both honors. Marroquin is a senior midfielder majoring in Psychology, Carrera, a senior defender, is pursuing a degree in Nursing.
Janeczek and Bernal each received their second recognition as NAIA Scholar-Athletes this fall after both women repeated on the league honor roll from one year ago. Janeczek, a senior defender/midfielder, is a Mathematics major, while Bernal, a graduate forward, is pursuing a Master's degree in Business Administration.
In her first year of eligibility, Villont marked her name on both award lists. The senior defender, is working towards a Bachelor's degree in Criminal and Social Justice. She was one of only thirteen players among the 128 individuals dotting the league list to boast a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average.
Jakubiec, a senior defender, closed out her career with the conference recognition for the third consecutive season. She is a Mathematics major.
Flores and Mireles completed the list of league honorees with their first accolades. Flores is a sophomore forward majoring in Psychology and Mireles, a junior goalkeeper, is an Art and Design major.
