GREENWOOD, Ind. -- University of St. Francis men's soccer players
Ander Santamarta,
Pablo Alvarez and
Dominik Barwiolek have been named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team, it has been announced by the CSC organization. This year marks the second Academic All-District selection for Santamarta, while it is the first for both Alvarez and Barwiolek.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore both athletically and academically and boast no less than a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, while performing at an elite athletic level. Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
Earning CSC All-District recognition for the second year in a row, Santamarta is also both a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete and CCAC All-Academic selection. The senior midfielder totaled four goals and five assists in 11 matches in 2024.
For his career, Santamarta appeared in 58 matches with 50 of them being starts. In that time, he recorded 11 goals – two game-winners – and 10 assists for 32 total points.
Santamarta, a Math & Computer Science major, has turned in a perfect 4.00 grade point average in six of his seven semesters at St. Francis.
A three-year member of the St. Francis program, Alvarez helped key a back-line unit that posted three one-score matches and a shutout thsi fall. Offensively, the senior defender registered five goals and two assists for a total of 12 points.
For his career, Alvarez accounted for seven goals and two assists in 26 total shot attempts. He appeared in 40 matches for USF, with 38 being starts.
A NAIA Scholar-Athlete and CCAC All-Academic selection as a junior, Alvarez is majoring in International Business.
Showcasing the best season of his four-year career this past fall, Barwiolek tallied two goals – one game-winner – and five assists for the Saints. The senior forward took 12 shots total with five being on-target.
For his career, Barwiolek appeared in 44 matches, 18 of which were starts. In that time, he produced three goals and six assists for 12 total points.
A Criminal & Social Justice major, Barwiolek – who gained CCAC All-Academic status as a junior – has posted a perfect 4.00 grade point average in each of his past two academic semesters.
The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions – NCAA I, II and III and NAIA. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
USF finished the 2024 campaign at 5-8-2 overall. At the league level, the Saints went 1-7-2 to place tenth among 11 teams.
