Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Johnson's Double-Double, Harrison's 20-Point Game Not Enough For Saints On Wednesday Night

JOLIET, Ill. --- Baylei Johnson authored her second career double-double and Tykara Harrison came off the bench to score 20 points, but the University of St. Francis women's basketball team still came up nine points short in a 73-64 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference setback to Governors State University on Wednesday night at the Sullivan Center.

Governors State (13-3, 7-1 CCAC) used 22-point first and fourth quarters to fend off the Fighting Saints.  The Jaguars got out of the gate fast, taking a 13-5 lead in the game's first five minutes and shooting 61.5 percent (8-of-13) for the period to open up a 22-15 advantage at the stop.

That lead eventually got as high as 11 points in the early part of the second quarter before USF (7-8, 3-4) used its own 60 percent shooting mark (6-of-10) in the frame to pull within one point (30-29) before settling for a 34-31 deficit at the break.

The contest remained tight in the third quarter with the Saints taking their only lead of the game on a Jorja Bolton three-pointer at the 4:07 mark.  Governors State responded by scoring 11 of the final 15 points of the quarter to regain a 51-45 edge heading into the fourth quarter.

The Saints would never get closer than four points the rest of the night as Governors State hit the 22-point mark again by shooting 50 percent from the field (8-of-16) in the final stanza and also making all five of its free-throw attempts.

The guests also took advantage of USF's 20 turnovers on the night, turning them into a 17-4 scoring difference in points off miscues.  The Jaguars committed just nine turnovers.

Johnson's double-double was created by her 15 points and game-high 10 rebounds.  Mia Kennelly also pulled down ten boards to go along with four assists, while Harrison added five assists to her 20-point night.  Bolton contributed 12 points, five caroms, three assists and one steal.

Zareia Chevre led a contingent of four Jaguar double-figure scorers.  She netted 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting.

Notes: Harrison's second contest hitting the 20-point plateau gave her eight straight games scoring in double figures … Bolton has achieved the same feat in four games in a row and six of seven … Kennelly has been a rebounding machine in her last three contests, averaging 11.3 boards per night with 14, 10 and 10 rebounds during that stretch … Johnson has posted back-to-back ten-rebound games … Harrison's five assists on Wednesday were a campaign high … The Saints tied a season high with their four blocked shots, two each by Johnson and Harrison … USF's 20 turnovers marked the third straight game in which it has hit that level … St. Francis is at Roosevelt University on Saturday for a CCAC contest beginning at 1 pm.
