RIVER FOREST, Ill. --- A big day from
Pablo Rubio Guerra and a four-goal splurge in a 19-minute first-half scoring spree carried the University of St. Francis men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Concordia University Chicago on Wednesday afternoon.
Rubio Guerra was involved in each of the first three goals, starting the onslaught with his first goal at 17:55 off a feed from
Jesus Flores. Just over two minutes later, Rubio Guerra connected with
Jose Perez for the latter's first goal as a Fighting Saint.
Rubio Guerra's second goal came in the 30th minute from
Edward Luna before
Sergio Fernandez-Arango closed out the scoring with his unassisted tally at 36:54.
Concordia (0-3) avoided the shutout with its only score coming with just over three minutes remaining in the contest.
Erick Murillo registered the win in goal for USF, stopping a pair of shots.
The victory was the second in a row for the Saints, who evened out their record at 2-2.Â
Notes:  Rubio Guerra's two-goal match was the second of his career … Fernandez-Arango has now contributed at least one goal in each of the team's three contests in which it has scored … The assists for Luna and Flores were their first of the campaign … The game concluded a season-opening four-match road trip for the Saints, who went 2-2 during the journey … St. Francis makes its 2023 home debut at Joliet Memorial Stadium next Tuesday (Sept. 12) when it hosts St. Mary-of-the-Woods College (Ind.) at 7 pm.
