S(ix)cess!: Saints Extend Win Streak To Six Games With 2-1 Victory Over Judson

JOLIET, Ill. --- Pablo Rubio Guerra scored in his fifth consecutive match and the University of St. Francis men's soccer team extended its winning streak to six games after outlasting a furious rally from Judson University in the contest's closing four minutes to gain a 2-1 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory on Saturday afternoon at Joliet Memorial Stadium.

The string of successes is the longest for the St. Francis program since the 1995 campaign when that team rang up nine straight wins.  The six victories also match USF's win count from one year ago with eight games still remaining in the regular season.

Rubio Guerra accounted for both USF goals for the third multi-goal game of his career with Sergio Fernandez-Arango providing the two assists.

For the fifth time during the winning streak, the Saints (6-2, 3-0 CCAC) tallied the first goal of the game and never relinquished the lead.  Rubio Guerra broke the scoreless tie in the 24th minute with his second goal coming at 41:51.

Judson (2-4-1, 1-2) got back into the contest at 69:26 when Gabriel Trevisan connected on a penalty kick to make it a 2-1 contest.  The Saints then had to outlast four Eagle shots that either hit the crossbar or the post in the final four minutes.

The guests finished with a game-high 15 total shots, ten of which came in the closing 45 minutes.  St. Francis totaled 10 shots, six of which were on goal.

Erick Murillo stopped three of Judson's four shots on goal to record the win in net.

Notes: The 1995 club opened its campaign on a five-game losing streak before getting hot.  That team won both the regular-season and conference tournament championships before bowing out in the NAIA Great Lakes Regional to finish 12-10 … Rubio Guerra's seven goals are a career high.  All seven of his goals and three of his four assists have come during his five-match hot streak … Fernandez-Arango's multi-assist game was his second of the season and fourth of his career.  He has provided at least one point during the winning streak and the same amount or more in seven of eight contests this year for a team-best 20 points (7 goals, six assists) … The Saints improved to 3-0 at home with the win … Head coach Vince Martinez's squad is off until next Saturday (Sept. 30) when it hits the road to face Olivet Nazarene University.
