Saints Tie With Holy Cross

NOTRE DAME, Ind. --- The University of St. Francis women's soccer team and Holy Cross College settled for a 1-1 draw in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Tuesday afternoon after both teams produced second-half goals.

USF's Ixchel Pelayo broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 65th minute when she combined on a goal with Mia Ocana.  Holy Cross responded nine minutes later when Hannah Lemieux found the back of the net with her header off a pass from Olivia Shaw.

St. Francis' defensive back line of Zoe Villont, Emily Galvan and Andrea Aguirre did not allow Holy Cross (3-4-1, 1-0-1 CCAC) to get off a shot in the opening 45 minutes.  The Fighting Saints, on the other end of the field, put up ten shots with five being on goal.  All five were stopped by Holy Cross goalkeeper Taylor Primack, who ended the match with seven saves on the afternoon.  Included was a tie-saving stop with just over two minutes to play.

Holy Cross' first shot of the afternoon came on goal 58 seconds into the second half.  That started a stretch of the two teams exchanging a pair of shots over the next 20 minutes.  USF's second shot by Pelayo provided the first point on the scoreboard.

Holy Cross then got the next six shots off over a nine-minute span with the fifth one tying the contest.  The sixth one was stopped by Krystal Rodriguez, who finished with three saves on the day.

USF (0-5-3, 0-1-1) took the final four shots of the game over the last 12 minutes, two of which were on goal, including the near game-winner at 87:40.  The Saints finished with 16 total shots to Holy Cross' eight.

Notes: Pelayo's goal was her team-leading second of the season … Ocana's assist was her first on the campaign … The eight shots taken by Holy Cross were the second-fewest allowed by the St. Francis defense this year … With both scores coming in the second half, 14 of the 17 combined goals by the Saints and their opponents this season have happened after the break … USF returns home on Saturday to face Judson University in a league contest beginning at 1 pm.
