JOLIET, Ill. --- Holding its fourth straight team to less than 34 percent shooting from the field, the University of St. Francis women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four games with a 69-56 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Trinity Christian College on Saturday afternoon at the Sullivan Center.
The Saints (19-5, 14-3 CCAC) opened up a 20-point lead at the break and only had that dip back into single digits once briefly with just over two minutes to play in the contest.
USF hit eight of its first 13 shots from the field and 3-of-4 free throws to begin the contest on a 21-5 run. At the same time, Trinity Christian (9-15, 6-11) converted only two of its first 15 shots.
Things did not get much better for the Trolls in the second quarter, where they went just 2-of-16 to finish at 5-of-32 (15.6 pct.) for the first 20 minutes.
The Saints controlled each of the first three quarters before Trinity Christian made things a bit interesting when it went on a 19-4 run to make it a 65-56 game with 2:06 to play. The Trolls, however, would not score again the rest of the afternoon.
For the game, USF shot 41.4 percent (24-of-58) to that of Trinity Christian, which finished at 30.8 percent (20-of-65). The Saints also out-rebounded TCC, 48-34.
Three St. Francis players scored in double figures topped by
Jordan Pyle's 16 points to go along with eight rebounds and three steals.Â
Hannah Swiatek provided another 14 markers and six assists, while
Justene Charlesworth chipped in with 13 points.
Alina Jahnke led the rebounding brigade with 11 caroms to go along with eight points.
Trinity Christian was led by Faith Davis' 15 points.
