Saints Reach 20-Win Plateau For Eighth Consecutive Season

JOLIET, Ill. --- Behind six Saints delivering at least nine points each, the University of St. Francis women's basketball team secured its eighth straight 20-win season with an 83-64 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Holy Cross College at the Sullivan Center on Wednesday night.

Hannah Swiatek led the way with 20 points, while also distributing five assists.  Jordan Pyle and Alina Jahnke, meanwhile, both came up just one rebound short of a triple-double and double-double, respectively.  Pyle totaled 14 points, 11 assists, nine rebounds and four steals, while Jahnke recorded 13 points and nine boards.

Also getting in the mix were Le'lani Harris with ten points and Justene Charlesworth and Mia Kennelly with nine markers each.

Grace Adams led Holy Cross (14-12, 9-9 CCAC) with 16 points and ten rebounds.

Trailing 9-2 early, the Saints (20-5, 15-3) recovered in time to take a 16-15 lead at the stop.  They then broke the game open with four three-pointers in as many possessions as part of a 15-0 run in the second quarter to turn the team's last deficit (17-16) into a 31-17 lead.  Swiatek, Harris, Charlesworth and Laurelei Thormeyer each provided a trey during the outburst and St. Francis never led by less than 11 points the rest of the night.

Fourteen three-pointers and an overall .475 shooting clip (29-of-61) enabled USF to keep Holy Cross at bay.  The guests shot .375 (27-of-72) with only four treys.

Notes: Swiatek's 20-plus point effort was her third of the season … Jahnke just missed out on her second double-double of the campaign … USF's .786 shooting mark from the free-throw line (11-of-14) was its second-highest reading of the year … The only blemish on the night was a season-high 24 turnovers … The Saints have the next six days off before hosting St. Ambrose University next Wednesday night.
