Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Big Board Night Results In 85-55 Victory Over Roosevelt

CHICAGO --- The University of St. Francis women's basketball team fell just one point short of having all five of its starters reach double figures in the scoring column as the Fighting Saints won for the sixth time in seven games with their 85-55 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference decision over Roosevelt University on Wednesday night.

Four Saints also came close to registering double-doubles.  Le'lani Harris did so for the first time in her career with her 15 points and 13 rebounds.  Hannah Swiatek was one point off with her nine markers and ten assists, which tied a career-best effort.

Also having big games were Justene Charlesworth (16 points, 8 rebounds), Jordan Pyle (16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals) and Alina Jahnke (12 points, 8 rebounds, 6 blocks).

Jayla Turchin led Roosevelt (8-13, 6-10 CCAC) with 14 points and ten rebounds.

After falling behind 17-14 one minute into the second quarter, the Saints (18-5, 13-3) outscored Roosevelt 29-7 the rest of the quarter to build a 43-24 lead at the break.  They would never lead by less than 20 points in the closing half.

One big statistical advantage head coach John McGinty's club had on the night came on the offensive glass, where USF turned 21 offensive rebounds into 27 second-chance points.  For the game, the Saints out-boarded Roosevelt 59-37 and out-scored the Lakers 27-2 on second opportunities.

Notes: Harris' first double-double came in just her third collegiate start … She also scored in double figures in back-to-back contests for the first time in her career … Her 13 caroms were her second-most on the season … Jahnke tied a season high with her six blocks.  That resulted in a team-high ten blocks for the Saints this winter … USF's 59 rebounds were its second-highest total of the campaign and its 38 on the defensive end were one more than Roosevelt had total … St. Francis' lone blemish on the night was its season-high 20 turnovers, which had little effect in the outcome … The Saints return home to celebrate Senior Day on Saturday when they host Trinity Christian College in a 1 pm tip-off.
