JOLIET, Ill. --- NAIA No. 6-ranked Marian University (Ind.) shot a blazing 65.2 percent from the floor over the first three quarters en route to claiming a 95-55 victory over the University of St. Francis women's basketball team to conclude play in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference/Crossroads League Crossover on Saturday afternoon at the Pat Sullivan Center.
Four of five Marian starters scored in double figures with the fifth starter falling one point short of meeting that threshold. Abbey McNally led the way with a game-high 22 points, converting both all of her field goal (10-for-10) and free throw attempts (2-for-2). She also secured seven rebounds.
Le'lani Harris countered as the only Saint to total at least ten points, finishing with 14 markers. She also produced four rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Marian (4-1) took control of the game over the final six minutes of the second quarter. That is when the Knights turned a 28-21 lead into a 48-23 advantage with a 20-2 charge. During the stretch, Marian made good on 7-of-11 shots from the field and all three of its free throws. At the opposite end of the court, the Saints were just 1-of-6 from the field with five turnovers. USF (3-2) would never get the deficit under 20 points the rest of the afternoon.
Marian concluded the game shooting 59.4 percent (38-for-64), while St. Francis finished at 34.1 percent (15-of-44). The Knights also out-boarded the Saints by a 2-to-1 count, 40-19.
Notes: Harris extended her streak of double-figure scoring efforts to eight games dating back to last year … Both USF's three-point shooting mark (42.1 pct) and its free-throw accuracy (85 pct.) on Saturday were season-best efforts … Marian's overall shooting percentage (59.4) and its 42.1 percent mark on three-pointers were both season-best reports by a USF opponent … The Saints are at Viterbo University, which joins the conference next fall, on Wednesday.
