Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Saints Suffer First Home Setback

JOLIET, Ill. --- Saint Xavier University became the first team this season to solve the University of St. Francis men's soccer team at Joliet Memorial Stadium, handing the Fighting Saints their first home loss in a 4-0 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

Saint Xavier (6-3-4, 4-2-0 CCAC) wasted little time in scoring, going up 1-0 on the game's first shot at 2:07.  The score remained that way despite three more shots on goal from the Cougars and two by USF in the initial half.

The guests used the same recipe of scoring early to open the second half in building a 2-0 advantage when Daniel Diaz connected just 97 seconds after the break.  Saint Xavier would go on to add a pair of insurance tallies in the 71st and 86th minutes to account for the rest of the scoring.

The Saints (6-4-1, 3-2-1) would outshot Saint Xavier 18-15 on the afternoon, but SXU would hold an 8-4 edge in shots on goal.  Andres Zamora earned the shutout in goal, gaining his fourth clean sheet of the season.

Rogelio Valles led USF in both total shots (six) and shots on goal (two).  Pablo Rubio Guerra provided five of the other 12 shots.

Notes: The Saints are now 3-1-1 at home … Rubio Guerra had his goal-scoring streak snapped at seven games in the loss … Saturday marked just the second time USF was shutout this season … The Saints are on the road Tuesday to square off for an 8 pm league affair against Indiana University Northwest at the Crown Point Sportsplex.
