Saints Fall In Battle For First Place Against Indiana South Bend

JOLIET, Ill. --- A season-low 43 points for the University of St. Francis women's basketball team resulted in a 71-43 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference setback to Indiana University South Bend on Wednesday night at the Sullivan Center.  It also snapped a 13-game winning streak the Saints had against the Titans dating back to 2014.

After taking a 15-13 lead into the second quarter, USF was outscored by nearly identical counts of 21-9 and 20-10 over the next two periods enabling Indiana South Bend to coast to the victory and extend its first-place lead in the league to 1.5 games over the Saints.

St. Francis (15-5, 10-3 CCAC) struggled to find its shot all night long, resulting in season lows both overall from the field (.276, 16-of-58) and from beyond the arc (.161, 5-of-31).  Indiana South Bend nearly doubled those percentages, finishing at .492 from the field (29-of-59) and .357 from long range (5-of-14).

The guests also dominated on the boards, 43-29, in extending their winning streak to seven games.

The Titans (17-1, 10-1) posted four players in double figures in the scoring column topped by Tia Chambers' 18 points to go along with eight rebounds.  Alina Jahnke was the lone Saint to score more than seven points, finishing with 14 markers.

Jordan Pyle supplied seven points, eight rebounds, six assists and two blocks.

Notes: The two teams split their regular-season series with the Saints winning 72-70 back on Dec. 7 in South Bend … Jahnke's 14 points were her second-highest total of the campaign … Besides its shooting percentages and point total, USF also recorded season lows in field goals (16) and rebounds … The Saints will look to regroup Saturday when they head to Elgin, Ill. to face Judson University at 1 pm.
