Box Score INDIANAPOLIS --- In a battle of early-season unbeatens, NAIA No. 5-ranked Marian University (Ind.) came away with a 4-0 decision over the University of St. Francis women's soccer team on Wednesday night. The loss closed out a season-high three-game road trip for the Saints, who went 2-1 on the trip.
Employing a defensive strategy, head coach
Al Palar's team held Marian to just one goal through the opening 48 minutes of the contest. Stephanie Ramos broke the scoreless deadlock for the only tally needed on the night in the 28th minute.
Marian (5-0-1) added its second goal just over two minutes into the second half off a corner kick. USF (3-1) attempted to counter with its only shot on goal coming 30 seconds later off the foot of
Alexis Marroquin. That bid was denied by Knight goalkeeper Noelle Rolfsen, who authored her third shutout of the season and second in a row.
Marian's other two goals came at 67:41 and with just under two minutes to play.
Notes: Besides Marroquin,
Mia Ocana and
Nataley Salgado registered USF's other two shots … Marian totaled 20 shots, 12 of which were on goal …
Krystal Rodriguez tied a season high with her seven saves on the night … The contest marked the first time in four games this season the Saints were held scoreless … St. Francis is back home on Saturday night (5 pm) when it hosts University of Northwestern Ohio on Busey Bank Field at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
