JOLIET, Ill. --- Ten different University of St. Francis women's volleyball players contributed to the team's offensive attack with at least one kill each to score a 25-18, 25-19, 25-23 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) at the Sullivan Center on Tuesday night. The win improved the Saints to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Gabriela Oliveira led the balanced attack with eight kills followed by
Desiree Anderson and
Stephanie Woods with six kills apiece. Woods also rang up a team-best five blocks.
Setting things up was the combination of
Kaylie Sippel (14 assists) and
Abby Lab (10) with
Hannah Pacheco coming in later to deliver four assists and provide a pair of kills.
Hannah Monfre was the other category leader with 14 digs, while
Leah Talley, Anderson and Sippel each contributed eight digs.
The match featured 15 ties, including eight in the second set, and six lead changes.
The Saints trailed 10-6 at the start of Set 1, but put together a 5-0 run to go up 11-10. The set went back and forth from there before USF closed things out with seven of the final eight points.
Taylor Connolly, Woods and Sippel all provided kills in the final surge.
In Set 2, neither team led by more than three points before the Saints ran off seven of nine points to go up 18-13. Anderson collected a pair of kills in the rally and Oliveira did the same later during a closing 4-0 run.
Calumet St. Joseph (4-4, 1-1) got out of the box quickly in Set 3, going up 6-1. USF eventually got it back even at eight-all before the Crimson Wave came up with another five unanswered points to take an eventual 21-15 lead. A pair of kills off the bench from both
Asia Owens and Pacheco sparked a final 10-2 burst to end the match.
Notes: The three-set win was the second in a row and the third of the season ... The Saints wrap up the six-match string of contests at the Sullivan Center on Thursday when head coach
Cara Currier's club faces Roosevelt University in another conference affair.
