Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Saints Fall For First Time In Five Matches

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Roosevelt University became the first team in four matches to solve the University of St. Francis women's soccer team's defense, scoring once in each half to edge out the Fighting Saints 2-1 in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup at Morris Field on Saturday afternoon.

USF (6-2-1, 2-1-1 CCAC) entered the contest having not been scored upon in 291 minutes and riding a season-best string of four games without a setback.  Roosevelt finally broke the scoreless string with just over four minutes remaining in the first half.

The Lakers (2-4-1, 2-2) added an insurance tally in the 66th minute, which proved to be the difference in the end after the Saints broke their own scoreless drought in the 70th minute.  Abbey Janeczek made it a one-goal game with her first collegiate points coming off Andrea Aguirre's corner kick.

Janeczek's goal snapped a string of 160 minutes without scoring for USF.  It was one of only three shots on goal on the afternoon for the Saints, all of which came in the closing 35 minutes of the contest.

Overall, St. Francis took six shots - five in the second half - to that of 11 for Roosevelt with three of USF's shots coming after Janeczek's goal.  Only one of those three were on goal.  Seven of the Lakers' attempts came on goal, including two by Meaghan Smith, who recorded a goal and an assist.

Allison Schaar and Aguirre each attempted two shots.  One of Schaar's attempts and another by Azucena Diaz accounted for the other two shots on goal for the Saints.

Notes: USF goalkeeper Krystal Rodriguez went 331 minutes between her last goal allowed on Sept. 10 and the first one on Saturday.  In between, she recorded 17 saves.  For the season, she owns a 1.11 goals-against average … Aguirre's assist was her third of the season … The two goals allowed marked just the second time this season that USF's defense yielded more than one goal in a match … The Saints return to action Wednesday (8 pm) when they conclude a two-match road trip at the Crown Point Sportsplex, where they will face CCAC foe Governors State University.
