JOLIET, Ill. --- University of St. Francis women's soccer goalkeeper
Krystal Rodriguez extended her unscored-upon streak to 291 minutes, but Holy Cross College's Taylor Primack was equally up to the task with her fourth shutout of the season as the two teams battled to a scoreless tie in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
Rodriguez, who has not allowed a goal in league play this season, authored five saves en route to her third shutout in a row. She remained in the top spot in the league with her .840 save percentage, while also moving into the No. 1 position in goals-against average (1.00).
Primack sits second in save percentage (.828), while leading the league in shutouts. She recorded six saves on Tuesday.
Each team had a pair of solid scoring chances go by the wayside in the opening half.
Mia Ocana had a good luck at the goal 12 minutes into the contest, but her shot sailed wide left. Lauren Cernak, who led both teams with nine total shots, put up her best attempt at the 18-minute mark only to be denied by Rodriguez.
Seventeen minutes would elapse before another good scoring chance came from either team.
Ixchel Pelayo put up a shot from the right side that was saved by Primack. Then, two minutes later, Hannah Lemieux's header was too high for Holy Cross.
Two more strong scoring chances were denied in the second half for both teams. Three of the four came midway through the closing 45 minutes. Holy Cross' happened just one minute apart from each other with Rodriguez stopping the first one at point blank range and the other one hitting off the left post.
USF's best two chances were sandwiched around those two threats with
Alexis Marroquin and
Litzy Mendez both missing wide right with 26 and 17 minutes remaining, respectively.
Holy Cross attempted more total shots on the night (25-16) besides edging out the Saints 6-5 in shots on goal. No Saint had more than one shot on goal, while Cernak was the only one to have two for Holy Cross.
Notes: Rodriguez has allowed just one goal in the last 13 days covering four games … Besides her top ranking in save percentage and goals-against average, Rodriguez also sits second in the league in both total goals allowed (eight) and shutouts and third in saves (42) … Marroquin, Mendez and
