Saints Register Second Straight Shutout To Extend Winning Streak To Three Matches

JOLIET, Ill. --- Krystal Rodriguez notched her second straight shutout and the University of St. Francis women's soccer team improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league play with its 3-0 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Indiana University Northwest on Busey Bank Field at Joliet Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The win also kept the Saints perfect at home (3-0) and extended their winning streak to three games.

Head coach Al Palar's team had numerous opportunities to convert throughout the match but the only shot to find the back of the net through the first 87 minutes was Alexis Marroquin's first goal of the season.  It came on an assist from Vivian Ventura 36 minutes into the contest.

The dam eventually broke in the closing three minutes when Ventura and Allison Schaar scored less than two minutes apart in the 87th and 89th minutes.  Both goals came on assists from Ixchel Pelayo.

Both scores also came just after Indiana Northwest's Kelly Shaffer nearly knotted the contest at one-all in the 85th minute.  Rodriguez, however, was there for her seventh and final save of the afternoon to seal the shutout.  All seven saves came in the second half.

Prior to that, USF's front line of defense of Abbey Janeczek, Emily Galvan, Nataley Salgado and Azucena Diaz limited Indiana Northwest (1-3-2, 0-2) to just two total shots, neither of which were on goal.

For the game, USF put up 32 shots with 14 being on goal.  Indiana Northwest had 13 shots with the seven on goal.

Notes: Rodriguez lowered her goals-against average for the season to 1.14 with Saturday's shutout.  She has not allowed a goal in her last 201 minutes … Rodriguez's seven saves on the day tied a season-high mark.  She has stopped seven shots in a game three times now … In their last two matches, the Saints have taken 77 shots with 40 being on goal … Schaar recorded her second straight double-figure shot total on Saturday.  After producing 13 shots with eight on goal Wednesday, she recorded ten shots with five on goal Saturday.  Her second-half goal was her team-leading fifth of the season … Ventura moved into sole possession of second place in goals scored with her third on Saturday.  She also recorded her first assist as a Saint in the win … Pelayo doubled her assist count for the season with her two on Saturday.  She leads the team with four now … USF's current three-match winning streak is its second of the season … The Saints are back home Tuesday night when they host Holy Cross College at 7 pm.
