Saints Suffer First Conference Setback

DEERFIELD, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's volleyball team suffered its first setback in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Thursday night, dropping a 26-24, 25-13, 16-25, 25-20 decision to Trinity International University.  The loss left the Saints at 10-7 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Gabriela Oliveira paced USF's offense with 14 kills, while Desiree Anderson netted a double-double with her 11 kills and 12 digs.  Hannah Monfre was one better in the latter category with 13 digs.

Kaylie Sippel and Abby Lab shared setter responsibilities with Sippel putting up 17 assists and Lab 15.

Leah Talley accounted for three of USF's seven service aces.

The Saints held a 12-8 lead in the opening set, but Trinity International (12-2, 3-1) gained each of the next five points to take a 13-12 lead.  Back-and-forth the two teams went from there with 11 ties and four lead changes making up the match.

TIU opened a 24-21 lead late, but the Saints rallied to force one more tie at 24-all.  The Trojans finally secured the set with the final two points.

In Set 2, Trinity International put together a run of seven straight points to go up 12-4 and the Saints could never get within six points the rest of the way.

St. Francis got back into the match in Set 3 opening up a six-point lead at 18-12.  Aided by a pair of kills from Oliveira, the Saints scored five of the final six points to make it a 2-1 contest.

The two teams had ties at 12, 16 and 17 in the final set before Trinity International peeled away via a 5-0 run to go up 22-17 en route to the match victory.

Notes: Anderson's double-double was her sixth of the campaign … Oliveira reached double figures in kills for the fifth time this year.  Her 14 kills marked her second-highest output of the season … The Saints were hurt by a .096 attack percentage on the night … Head coach Cara Currier's team takes its first weekend off before getting right back to conference play at the Sullivan Center on Tuesday night at 7 pm against defending league champion Saint Xavier University.
