JOLIET, Ill. --- Defending league champion Saint Xavier University used a .313 attack percentage to score a 25-12, 25-22, 25-20 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over the University of St. Francis volleyball team Tuesday night at the Sullivan Center.
Molly Hackett was the biggest thorn in the side of the Saints (10-8, 4-2 CCAC) on this night, recording 16 kills against only three errors In 30 chances for a .433 attack percentage. USF's
Desiree Anderson attempted to counter with nine kills opposite three errors in 26 chances for a .231 reading. No other Saint recorded more than four kills as St. Francis was held to a .156 attack percentage.
Other Saint leaders included
Abby Lab with ten assists and
Hannah Monfre with nine digs. Anderson added eight digs on the defensive end.
Saint Xavier (9-4, 4-0) controlled virtually the whole match, leading from start to finish in both the first and third sets. The two teams had eight ties and four lead changes in the second set before the Cougars closed it out with a pair of points.
In the opening set, Hackett had four kills as part of a 9-2 run to turn an 8-6 lead into a 17-8 advantage. A short time later, the guests scored six of the final seven points to go up 1-0.
In Set 2, neither team led by more than four points. Saint Xavier closed out that set with the last two points and then used a 5-0 run late in Set 3 to notch its third win in a row.
Notes: The Saints are back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Bourbonnais, Ill. to take on Olivet Nazarene University in a conference matchup.
