Saints Maintain First-Place Standing With Win Over Trinity Christian

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's volleyball team kept pace with St. Ambrose University as both teams improved to 4-0 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with their respective wins on Tuesday night.  The Saints' victory came by a 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 count over Trinity Christian College.

Among USF's top contributors were Abby Lab and Stephanie Woods.  Lab totaled 13 assists and had four service aces in the first two sets to get USF (10-6) off on the right foot.  Woods was one of five St. Francis players to deliver at least five kills to go along with her team-high three blocks.

Gabriela Oliveira led the Saints in kills for the fourth time in the last five matches.  She collected eight on the night leading to a .333 attack percentage.  Also putting up five kills were Desiree Anderson and Taylor Connolly.

Others in the mix were Kaylie Sippel (10 assists) and Hannah Monfre (12 digs).

Connolly and Lab provided the first spark of the night in Set 1.  Trailing 7-6, the Saints scored 12 of the next 17 points, including two from Connolly on kills and two more from Lab on aces.

Head coach Cara Currier's club put an end to the set with a 6-2 run with five different players registering a point.

In Set 2, the Saints broke a five-all tie with six straight points, four of which came on Trinity Christian attacking errors.  The Trolls (1-12, 0-3) regrouped to tie the score at 19-all before Anderson (kill) and Lab (ace) pulled USF ahead for good.

Woods keyed the final set victory.  Clinging to a 17-16 lead, the senior delivered three kills as part of an 8-1 run to close out the match.

Notes: The Saints held Trinity Christian to a .067 attack percentage, while posting a .226 reading themselves … Lab's four aces were a season high … The three-set sweep was the sixth of the season for the team … USF continues conference play on Thursday at Trinity International University (7 pm).
