JOLIET, Ill. ---
Mia Ocana scored a goal and provided an assist on the game-winning tally as the University of St. Francis women's soccer team improved to 4-1 on the campaign with a 2-1 victory over University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday night on Busey Bank Field at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
Ocana gained her points on a pair of shots that were initially stopped. Her goal broke a scoreless deadlock in the 55th minute when her first shot was saved but came right back to her and she responded with an arching shot over goalkeeper Mireia Queralt's outstretched hands from 15 yards out.
Ocana's assist came in similar fashion from nearly the identical spot on the right side. Her shot was stopped, but rolled away from Queralt and
Vivian Ventura was right in front of the net to knock the ball into the goal.
In between, Northwestern Ohio's Ashley Wilson tied the score at one-all at 68:22.
Ventura's game-winning goal came just under three minutes later.
Krystal Rodriguez registered her fourth win in goal with five saves, including two from close range in the initial half to keep the match scoreless.
Both teams totaled six shots on goal with half of those coming from Ocana for USF. Northwestern Ohio, which had four of its six shots come in the first half, gained a 15-12 edge in overall shots attempted.
Notes: All four of USF's wins have come by identical 2-1 scores … Ocana's goal was her first at the collegiate level, while her assist was the second … Ventura's goal tied
Allison Schaar for the team lead with two each … The Saints head to South Bend, Ind. on Wednesday (4 pm) to open Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play against Indiana University South Bend.
