JOLIET, Ill. ---
Andrea Aguirre made quite the collegiate debut Tuesday night, scoring the game-winning goal with less than two minutes to play and assisting on the other tally in the University of St. Francis women's soccer team's 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Goshen College on Busey Bank Field at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
Aguirre's first goal of her collegiate career came with only 108 seconds remaining in the contest on a header into the left side of the net.Â
Mia Ocana also gained the first point of her career on the same play when she provided the assist from the right side.
That broke a 1-1 tie that had stood for nearly 60 minutes. Both teams had limited opportunities to score in the second half with Goshen's Madalyne Swallow and Ocana for USF having the best chances. Swallow had her header stopped by St. Francis starting goalkeeper
Krystal Rodriguez at 61:48 and then missed wide right in the closing minutes. Ocana shot a bullet at Victoria Naylor with 25 minutes to play and also was stopped by Naylor with just over four minutes remaining.
The first goal of the game was provided by Goshen in the 25th minute before the Saints got things even at one with
Allison Schaar's first goal of the campaign just over four minutes later. She scored off a pass from
Ixchel Pelayo, who got her ball from Aguirre off a corner kick.
Rodriguez stopped six shots to record her first win in goal wearing the brown and gold of St. Francis, while Naylor halted four shots for Goshen.
Other Notes: The Saints also defeated Goshen late one year ago with
Alexis Marroquin providing the lone tally in the 75th minute from Schaar ... Schaar tied for runner-up scoring honors one year ago with her six goals … Six of the 11 starters for the Saints were new to the program, including five freshmen.  Besides Rodriguez, Ocana, Pelayo and Aguirre, there was also rookie
Vivian Ventura. Junior college transfer
Maite Bernal also gained a starting nod … The Saints head to Indiana for each of their next three contests beginning with Saturday when they travel to University of Saint Francis (Ind.) for a 4 pm kickoff.Â
