Six-Run Fourth Inning Does In Saints

BABSON PARK, Fla. --- The University of St. Francis baseball team opened up an early 2-0 lead, but a six run fourth inning by Webber International University did the Saints in as they opened their nine game Florida trip with a 10-3 setback Saturday night.

Angel Diaz had a night to remember for the Warriors, driving in six runs on a three run home run in the fourth inning and clearing the bases with a double in the eighth inning.  Cristian Martin also homered for the hosts with Luis Acevedo producing four hits in six at bats at the top of the order.

Two out RBI singles from Josh Kirnbauer and John Peterson in the first two innings got the Saints off on the right foot, while St. Francis starter Angel Sandoval (0-1) cruised through the first three innings. He allowed just two hits during that stretch.

In the fourth inning, however, each of the first four batters reached base for the Warriors (20-3) starting with Martin's solo home run. Diaz followed three batters later with his home run to put the hosts up for good 4-2. By inning's end, they would total six runs on five hits with two St. Francis errors mixed in.

The Saints (3-8) would never mount a serious threat again until the eighth inning when they loaded the bases with two outs. Jake Vera coaxed a walk to provide USF's third run before the rally was stopped by a flyout.

All three Saints to drive in runs also collected two hits each on the night.

Xavier Rodriguez (1-0) worked the first six innings for Webber International to pick up the victory.
