Ketchum Powers Saints To Fifth Win In A Row

SOUTH BEND --- Luke Ketchum sparked a pair of big innings late with two home runs and the University of St. Francis baseball team totaled a season high 19 hits to extend its winning streak to five games with a 12-4 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Indiana University South Bend on Wednesday afternoon.

Trailing 4-2 heading into the sixth inning, Ketchum started a three run rally with his one out solo home run. One inning later, his two run home run sparked a six run outburst that completely turned the game around.

Ketchum added a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to close the scoring and wrap up a 2 for 4, 4-RBI game for him. The two home runs gave him a club best eight on the season.

Nine Saints in all collected hits, including Noah Kararo, John McGuire, Scott Tumilty, and Sam Tumilty, all of whom posted three hits and at least one RBI. Eric Maffie (2-for-5) continued his hot tear with his fifth straight multi hit game.

Like Ketchum, Kararo played an important role in the nine runs late with both a two run single and double. Ten of USF's 12 runs came after two outs, including all four that Kararo drove home. That included all six runs in the seventh inning when the Saints (12-18, 8-3 CCAC) had seven straight men reach base (6 hits, 1 walk) after the first two batters were retired.

Zac Blazekovich, Andrew Hancock, and Sam Pileggi shut the door on Indiana South Bend after the Titans (9-17, 3-7) scored three runs in the fifth inning. They combined for 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in place of starter Colin Kelly. Blazekovich was credited with the win, his first at the collegiate level. He worked two innings.
