LaSota Delivers Again, Saints Extend Win Streak To Season-High Four Games

WHITING, Ind. --- Jake LaSota had his second three hit game in as many days and the University of St. Francis baseball team received its fourth straight complete game performance from its pitching staff in a 7-1 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Tuesday afternoon at Oil City Stadium. The victory extended USF's winning streak to a season high four games.

LaSota, who went 3 for 3 with three doubles and six runs batted in on Monday, went 3 for 5 on Tuesday with two more doubles and another three RBIs. The five doubles over the past two days double his count in that category for the season with his ten total now tying Eric Maffie for the team lead.

The Saints (11-18, 7-3 CCAC) tallied runs in four of eight innings on Tuesday with LaSota playing a role in three of the scoring innings. He had RBI doubles in the fifth and seventh innings and a run scoring single in the eighth inning.

Luke Ketchum also keyed the four run seventh inning to give the Saints a 6-0 lead. He had a two run double in the frame, while Alex Martinez also drove in a pair of runs on the afternoon.

Maffie had his fourth multi hit game in a row, going 2-for-5 with three runs scored, while Scott Tumilty also collected a pair of hits and provided two of the other runs scored.

After giving up a hit to open the game, John McGuire (2-3) did not yield another one until the eighth inning. In between, he retired 19 of 20 batters with only a hit batsmen ruining the streak.

McGuire had his bid for his first collegiate shutout nixed in the ninth inning by the Crimson Wave (7-18, 2-7). After getting the first two batters out, he gave up three singles and a walk to account for the lone Calumet St. Joseph tally.

McGuire needed just 81 pitches to take care of business. He finished the game allowing five hits – four after the seventh inning – with two strikeouts and one walk.
