JOLIET, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis baseball team doubled its pleasure on nine of its 17 hits with senior catcher
Jake LaSota leading the way in a 13-0 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Trinity International University on Monday afternoon at Duly Health and Care Field.
LaSota provided three of the team's nine doubles on the day with all three driving in runs. He also had a sacrifice fly to total six runs batted in in the seven inning affair.
John McGuire and
Eric Maffie each added a pair of doubles with
Alex Mielcarz and
Gio Pappas recording the other two.
Of the five Saints to register doubles, LaSota, McGuire, Maffie and Pappas all authored three hit games.
Those were not the only extra bases, however.
Luke Ketchum got into the act with a two run triple as part of a two hit game for him and
Scott Tumilty brought home two runs with his third home run of the season in the second inning. In all, 11 of the 17 hits went for extra bases leading to a .912 team slugging percentage on the day.
The Saints (10-18, 6-3 CCAC) scored in all but one inning and built a 9-0 advantage after the first three innings. LaSota had two-run doubles in the first and third innings with Tumilty and Ketchum providing the other multi-RBI games.
USF's four run first inning was more than enough for starting pitcher
Ryan Daly (2-1). He needed just 71 pitches and 1 hour, 47 minutes to toss the seven inning shutout, facing just one batter over the minimum.
The sophomore hurler permitted just two hits to Trinity International (8-13, 1-6), one of which was an infield single. The other hit was wiped out by a double play. He did not allow a walk and stuck out two batters.
