LAKE WALES, Fla. ---
Luke Ketchum continued his hot tear with two more home runs, but the University of St. Francis baseball team dropped a pair of decisions in the Warner University (Fla.) Tournament on Friday. The Saints went extra innings with Siena Heights University in the morning contest before falling 3-2 in nine innings. In the nightcap, they were defeated by Concordia University (Mich.) 10-5.
Ketchum homered in each end of the twinbill, giving him a club high five home runs with four coming on the southern trip.Â
Sam Tumilty also provided hits in each of the two games, including two in the loss against Concordia.
Game 1: Siena Heights 3, USF 2 --- 9 Innings
The Saints got off to a good start with an RBI single from
Jake LaSota in the bottom of the first inning and Ketchum's first home run of the day in the second inning to go up 2-0. LaSota drove in
Noah Kararo, who opened the contest with a single in the leadoff spot.
Siena Heights (4-10) got back in the game aided by two walks and a hit batsmen with the first run coming home on a wild pitch and the tying run scoring on a sacrifice fly.
Neither team mounted another serious scoring threat until the seventh inning when the Saints put two men on base with only one out. Siena Heights got out of the jam with a flyout and a groundout.Â
USF also had a runner at third base in the eighth inning, but a forceout ended that threat, as well.
Siena Heights then won the contest in the ninth inning with a one out single after opening the frame with a double.
LaSota and Ketchum accounted for half of USF's eight hits with two apiece.
Game 2: Concordia (Mich.) 10, USF 5
Concordia tallied all ten of its runs in the first two innings, including a nine run second inning in which the Cardinals had a two run double, a two run triple and a three run home run.
USF's five runs came on single runs in each of the first three innings and the final two in the seventh inning. Tumilty and Ketchum gave the Saints short lived 1-0 and 2-1 leads with their RBI single and solo home run, respectively.Â
Alex Martinez and
Eric Maffie provided RBI singles in the seventh inning.
St. Francis (4-15) matched Concordia's nine hits with Ketchum (2-for-4) and Tumilty (2-for-3) registering multiple hit games.
