Saints Open Conference Season With 10-4 Victory

JOLIET --- Scoring in six of nine innings, the University of St. Francis baseball team opened its 2022 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference season with a 10-4 victory over Trinity Christian College on Wednesday afternoon at Duly Health & Care Field. The win also snapped a seven game losing streak for the Saints.

Head coach Brian Michalak's club put up single runs in each of the first two innings before tallying a pair of runs in each of the middle three innings and then capping the scoring with a two run ninth inning.

Noah Kararo, Eric Maffie, Scott Tumilty, and Jake Vera all had a pair of hits as part of USF's 12 hit attack. Tumilty and Vera also drove in two runs each.

Eight St. Francis players in all recorded at least one hit.

Jake LaSota led the Saints (5-15, 1-0 CCAC) with three runs batted in courtesy of a sacrifice fly to open the scoring in the first inning and a two out, two run single to make it an 8-2 game in the sixth inning. One frame earlier, Tumilty also provided a two run single with two outs for a 6-2 USF lead.

Angel Sandoval (1-2) worked the first five inning to pick up the victory. John McGuire tossed one scoreless inning, while Zac Blazekovich did the same over the final two innings, striking out two batters and allowing just one hit.

Oliver Carmody and Michael Moralez each had four hits for Trinity Christian (4-10, 0-1)
