PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. ---
Justene Charlesworth and
Jordan Pyle each hit five three pointers and the University of St. Francis women's basketball team notched its seventh consecutive 20 win season with its 72-58 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Trinity Christian College on Saturday afternoon.
Pyle just missed recording her second consecutive 30 point game and third in five contests, finishing with 27 points, while Charlesworth joined her in the 20 point club, collecting 21 markers. Pyle, who made 10 of her 18 shots from the field, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, also provided six assists and three steals.
Andriana Acosta and
Kalyn Sias-Chaney added nine points each. Acosta just missed a double double, collecting a game high 10 rebounds to go along with five steals, which was also a game high.
Gabby Kreykes led Trinity Christian with 19 points and nine boards.
USF (20-6, 17-2 CCAC) led for all but one minute, 47 seconds of the contest. The only time the Saints trailed was 6-5 early on and, like their previous game, they took control in the second quarter when they outscored Trinity Christian 16-6. St. Francis closed out that frame with a 7-0 run to take a 33-17 lead into the break before adding a string of eight unanswered points early in the third quarter to gain its biggest lead of the afternoon at 43-22.
Trinity Christian (12-11, 7-10) would never get the deficit below double figures the rest of the way. The Trolls were hurt by their 21 turnovers, which resulted in 30 St. Francis points. The Saints made just nine turnovers resulting in only six TCC points.
The victory enabled USF to gain the season sweep of the series between the two clubs. The Saints won the first matchup 69-55 back on Nov. 17.
Saturday's victory also extended USF's winning streak to seven games and kept the Saints tied atop the league standings with Saint Xavier University.
