Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Saints Open Four-Game Road Trip With A 77-61 Setback To Indiana South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- Despite producing its second-best shooting mark of the season, the University of St. Francis men's basketball team scored a season-low 61 points in dropping a 77-61 decision to Indiana University South Bend in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday night.

The Saints converted at a .472 clip for the game (29-of-53), but were only 7-of-19 from three-point range (.368), while Indiana South Bend shot 50 percent from beyond the arc (10-of-20) and 58.2 percent overall (32-of-55).  In the second half, the Titans (6-4, 4-1 CCAC) missed only eight shots, going 17-for-25 from the field for 68 percent.

Despite IUSB's hot hand in the closing 20 minutes, that is when the Saints (2-4, 1-3) got back into the game after getting behind by double figures at the start of the half, including by as many as 14 points three minutes after the intermission.  Jake Karli started a 10-2 rally with a layup and Aitor Anabitarte followed with another layup and a three-pointer before Nadav Gerner capped it with his own trey.  That cut an 11-point deficit (55-44) down to three points (57-54) with 8:09 to play.

The next five minutes, however, saw Indiana South Bend score on each of seven possessions culminating with a pair of three-pointers to go up 73-56 with just under four minutes to play.  IUSB went a perfect 7-for-7 from the field during that 16-2 stretch, while the Saints were 1-for-3 with three turnovers on their six possessions.

Carter Fayhee led a group of three USF players that scored in double figures.  He totaled 19 points with Anabitarte adding 12 and Darius Wright 11.

Indiana South Bend's Miles Tracy led all scorers with 22 points to go along with six rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks.  Donyell Meredith II provided 17 points and a game-high seven rebounds.

Notes: The contest was the first of four straight on the road for head coach Ryan Marks' club … Jalen Reneau's five assists were a season high for him … The two teams combined to shoot just nine free throws on the night with the Saints being a perfect 4-for-4 … USF's 17 turnovers were its second-highest total on the year … The Saints are back in South Bend on Saturday when they face Holy Cross College in a 2 pm CT tipoff.
