Sweet 16! Saints Continue To Roll At Home

JOLIET, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's basketball team made it a Sweet 16 with its 16th straight victory at the Sullivan Center on Wednesday night, handling Calumet College of St. Joseph 119-30 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for the Saints.

USF (3-1, 1-0 CCAC) scored the first 36 points of the contest in the game's opening 11 minutes, allowing head coach John McGinty to rest his starters the rest of the night.  That enabled all 14 players in uniform to see plenty of playing time with 13 of them contributing at least four points each.

Five Saints scored in double figures, including a trio of players off the bench.  Justene Charlesworth and Mia Kennelly paced the attack with each player drilling five treys en route to a game-high 15 points.  Kennelly also authored her first collegiate double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds.  Totaling 12 points each were Jordan Pyle, Talia Pellegrini and Alina Jahnke.

Other contributors included Braxtin Mickens and Josie Graffeo with nine points each, Le'lani Harris with seven points and a game-high 15 rebounds, Hannah Swiatek, Laurelei Thormeyer, C'Erra Maholmes and Kaeli Ford with six points each and Autumn Shull with four points.

Thirteen of the players also recorded an assist on a night where the Saints passed the ball around to the tune of 33 total assists.  Swiatek and Kennelly each provided five dishoffs with Harris and Thormeyer delivering four.

Of its 43 baskets, 24 came from long range in 49 attempts for USF, producing a 49 percent shooting mark from beyond the arc.  Overall, the Saints hit on 53.1 percent of their field goal attempts (43-of-81).

Notes: The Saints matched their scoring in each of the first three quarters with 31 points in each frame … USF hit 14 of its first 21 shots from the field, including seven treys in 13 attempts, during the unanswered opening run … The Saints are right back at the Sullivan Center on Saturday when they host Trinity International University for a 1 pm tipoff.
