JOLIET, Ill. ---
Jordan Pyle and
Josie Graffeo both recorded double-doubles and all five starters scored no less than nine points as the University of St. Francis women's basketball team made it 19 straight wins at the Sullivan Center with an 88-59 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Roosevelt University on Tuesday night.
The Saints (7-1, 4-0) looked to use their same recipe for success en route to their sixth straight win by jumping out to an early lead and coasting the rest of the way. They did that in the first ten minutes, building a 22-8 advantage before going cold in the second quarter.
USF scored a season-low eight points in the second quarter enabling Roosevelt (1-6, 1-4) to get right back in the contest at 30-26 at the break. The Saints converted just three of their 17 shots in the quarter, including only one three-pointer in eight attempts, while Roosevelt connected from long range three times among its six field goals. A string of seven straight points by the Lakers actually got them within 24-23 with 3:56 remaining before halftime.
The offensive switch came back on for head coach
John McGinty's club after the break with the Saints going 19-for-34 from the floor (.559) in the closing 20 minutes to outscore Roosevelt 58-33. The third quarter was the most decisive with St. Francis putting up 31 points to the guests' 10. A 22-2 burst over a six-minute span in that quarter turned a 35-30 USF lead into a 57-32 advantage. Roosevelt would never lower the deficit below 22 points the rest of the night.
Braxtin Mickens, who scored 10 of her game-high 19 points in the third quarter, had seven points during the run. She also provided seven rebounds.Â
Hannah Swiatek was a big key in the run with five of her 13 points during that stretch. She distributed seven assists, as well, on the night.
Pyle had the best game of the year with season highs of 17 points and ten boards, while Graffeo's first collegiate double-double was made up of 11 points and a career-best ten rebounds.Â
Justene Charlesworth rounded out the starting five with her nine points.
Meghan Urbanski led Roosevelt with 15 points.
