Schaar's Goal Not Enough In 2-1 Setback To St. Ambrose

DAVENPORT, Iowa --- A pair of unanswered goals in the closing 30 minutes by St. Ambrose University left the University of St. Francis women's soccer team saddled with a 2-1 setback in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

All looked good until that point with Allison Schaar's penalty kick in the 32nd minute holding up against the defending CCAC Tournament champions.  Krystal Rodriguez did her part in goal, as well, denying St. Ambrose (6-2-3, 5-0-2 CCAC) of its first six shots on goal.

Taylor DeSplinter's sliding shot into the left corner in the 60th minute, however, broke the ice for the hosts, who then gained the game-winning shot at 79:31.  Hailee Wilson provided the latter score on a lofted shot that just eluded the outstretched hands of Rodriguez.

Besides the penalty kick, USF (8-4-1, 4-3-1) had four shots on goal with two coming in each half.  The final attempt by Andrea Aguirre came with just three seconds to play.

Litzy Mendez had the other second-half attempt six minutes after the break.  Alexis Marroquin and Schaar provided the two first-half attempts that were denied.

St. Ambrose finished with 18 total shots to USF's 11.  The Fighting Bees also held a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Notes: Schaar's goal was her tenth of the season, which ties her for the No. 3 spot in the league … The loss marked the first time this season that the Saints have dropped back-to-back matches … Three of USF's four losses have come by one goal … The Saints are back on the road Wednesday when they travel to Deerfield to take on Trinity International University in a 3 pm matchup.
