DEERFIELD, Ill. ---
Hailey Bartlaga and
Allison Schaar each scored a pair of goals and the University of St. Francis women's soccer team matched its win total from one year ago with a 4-0 decision over Trinity International University in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon.
Bartlaga came off the bench to record the first multi-goal match of her collegiate career. She also netted the game-winning goal with her steal of an errant Trinity International pass and shot into the left corner of the goal from 25 yards out at the 31:57 mark.Â
That goal looked as though it was going to hold up as the only tally of the contest until the Saints scored in rapid fire, adding to their lead with three goals in less than four minutes midway through the second half. Schaar provided the first two on assists from
Litzy Mendez and
Mia Ocana in the 62nd and 65th minutes.
Bartlaga book-ended the scoring with her second goal off a pass from
Ixchel Pelayo at 66:12.
USF doubled up on Trinity International (3-10-1, 2-7) in total shots, 22-11, and held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal as well as a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.
Krystal Rodriguez stopped three shots in net for St. Francis to claim her fifth shutout of the season.
The win was the ninth of the season against just four losses and one tie with three games to go. One year ago, the Saints went 9-7-2. In league play, head coach
Al Palar's team is 5-3-1, which currently puts it in a four-way tie for third place pending the outcome of other games Wednesday night.
Notes: Schaar's multi-goal game was her third of the season and the fourth of her career … The two goals give her 12 for the season, which ties her for the top spot in the league. She also ranks tied for fourth with 26 total points … Rodriguez also finds her name no less than three times on the CCAC leaderboard with her .835 save percentage ranking first, her 0.97 goals-against average second and her 66 saves fifth … Ocana and Pelayo now share the team lead in assists after each delivering their fifth of the season on Wednesday … Mendez recorded her first assist of the campaign, as well … The Saints are back home on Saturday to face league runner-up Trinity Christian College at 1 pm.   Â
