JOLIET, Ill. --- Scoring two goals just 55 seconds apart, the University of St. Francis women's soccer team used that flurry to gain a 2-0 victory over Saint Xavier University, wrap up a spot in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament and register its most wins since 2015.
Allison Schaar was involved in both scoring plays, ricocheting the game-winning goal off the right post at 28:18 and then providing the assist to
Alexis Marroquin at 29:13.Â
Ixchel Pelayo accounted for the assist on Schaar's team-leading 13th goal of the season.
By virtue of Roosevelt University losing earlier in the day, the Saints wrapped up their second straight berth in the CCAC Tournament. USF's 22 points currently places it fifth in the league standings with one week remaining in the regular season.
St. Francis (11-4-1, 7-3-1 CCAC) also tied the mark for the second-most wins in school history with its 11th victory on Saturday.
In goal,
Krystal Rodriguez posted her sixth shutout of the season. She stopped three shots on the night.
The Saints dominated offensively, putting up 25 shots to Saint Xavier's seven. The Cougars (6-6-4, 6-3-2) also managed just the three shots on goal, only one of which was a serious threat. USF totaled ten shots on goal, including four from Schaar, and also held a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Notes: USF's record for victories in a season is 12, set in both 2013 and 2012 … Schaar's goal moved her into a tie for third place in the league with 13. She also boasts the second-most total shots with 74 … Marroquin's goal was her third of the year … Pelayo took over sole possession of the team lead in assists with six … Rodriguez's name can be found in no fewer than five categories in the conference standings. She leads the CCAC in save percentage (.849), ranks second in both shutouts (six) and goals-against average (0.88), is fourth in goals against (14) and fifth in total saves (79) … The Saints wrap up their home regular-season schedule on Wednesday when they host Judson University at 7 pm.  Â
