DEERFIELD, Ill. ---
Jordan Pyle led the University of St. Francis women's basketball team in scoring for the fourth straight game and the Fighting Saints completed a perfect 3-0 week by earning a 57-43 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Trinity International University on Saturday afternoon.
Pyle was one of three Saints to score in double figures. She totaled 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including a strong 4-of-5 reading from three point range.Â
Justene Charlesworth and
Andriana Acosta each provided 11 points with Acosta also gaining a game high 10 rebounds for her ninth double double of the season.
Alina Jahnke was the lone Trinity International player to tally at least ten points, finishing with a game high 20 points to go along with seven rebounds.
USF (18-6, 15-2 CCAC) had to battle through an off-shooting day to gain its fifth win in a row and seventh in its last eight games. The Saints converted at just a .339 clip from the field (19-of-56), while TIU was just slightly better at .372 (16-of-43). Head coach
John McGinty's club offset the low overall percentage by registering nine three pointers in 22 attempts (.409).
The Saints also turned the ball over just 10 times, while forcing 21 Trinity International errors. That resulted in a 19-7 scoring advantage for USF in points off turnovers.
After trailing by a 15-13 count in the opening frame, St. Francis turned it up a notch defensively in the second and third quarters. USF outscored Trinity International 33-15 in those two eight minute periods and held the Trojans to just five baskets in 23 attempts (.217). Pyle netted 12 of her 18 points in the second quarter.Â
That is also where the Saints produced their biggest run. Leading 21-20 with 6:32 remaining in the second quarter, USF allowed the Trojans (6-12, 2-11) to score just one basket the rest of that quarter and the first 34 seconds of the third quarter to open up a 33-22 advantage. From there, the lead would hold in double figures for all but 43 seconds of the second half. Â Â
Charlesworth made sure of that by accounting for all 11 of both hers and USF's points in the fourth quarter.
