JOLIET, Ill. ---
Jordan Pyle hit for 30 plus points for the second time this season and the University of St. Francis women's basketball team remained in the hunt for the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season title with its 70-63 victory over Governors State University on Tuesday night at the Sullivan Center.
With seven league games remaining in the regular season, the Saints (16-6, 13-2 CCAC) are tied with Saint Xavier University for second place, one half game behind frontrunner St. Ambrose University.
Pyle finished the evening scoring a game high 31 points – two off her career high mark – on 11-of-19 shooting from the field, 3-of-4 accuracy from three point range and a 6-of-8 report at the foul line. She also totaled seven rebounds and a pair of steals.
Pyle and
Andriana Acosta both came off the bench to post their big numbers. Acosta authored her eighth double double of the campaign with her 14 points and game high 12 rebounds. She also dished out three assists.
Justene Charlesworth joined the pair in the double figure scoring club. She collected 14 points with all four of her baskets coming from beyond the arc, to go along with six rebounds and three steals.
Governors State was led by
Cashay Dixon (24 points) and
Sharnita Breeze (12 points, 10 rebounds).
Governors State (6-14, 5-8) opened the game scoring the first five points before USF responded with the next eight and never trailed the rest of the way. The Saints eventually got the advantage up to 11 points at the break (33-22) before extending it as high as 17 points early in the third quarter.
The lead would not dip below ten points until the 3:19 mark of the fourth quarter, but the guests would never get closer than seven points the rest of the night.
The victory extended USF's season long winning streak at home to nine games.
