Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Saints Sweep Season Series From Indiana South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- In near identical fashion to its first meeting with Indiana University South Bend, the University of St. Francis women's basketball team gained a sweep of the season series against the Titans with its 68-55 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory on Wednesday night. In the initial meeting back on Nov. 3, the Saints claimed a 68-54 win.

Justene Charlesworth, Andriana Acosta, and Kalyn Sias-Chaney all scored in double figures to lead USF's offensive attack. Charlesworth and Acosta combined to shoot 75 percent from the floor going 15-for-20.

Charlesworth hit five three pointers and 6-of-9 shots overall to top the Saints' scoring charts with 19 points. She also collected seven rebounds. Acosta was one point behind with 18 markers on 9-of-11 shooting with a game high eight rebounds.

Sias-Chaney provided a solid all around effort with her 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

Indiana South Bend was led by Maddie Gard's game high 23 points.

The Saints (14-6, 11-2 CCAC) fell just short of the 50 percent mark shooting as a team, going 25-for-53. They also went 10-of-27 from three point range, while Indiana South Bend had the same number of attempts from beyond the arc but only converted four times (14.8 pct.). The Titans also struggled at the foul line (35.7 pct., 5-of-14) and overall from the field (38.3 pct., 23-of-60).

The other key statistic for USF head coach John McGinty's squad was its 42-24 rebounding advantage on the night.

Indiana South Bend (13-5, 6-4) led only once in the contest at 8-7 with 4:27 remaining in the first quarter. USF led by as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter, but the advantage ranged from 7-to-10 points for most of the night.

Acosta fueled a 23-point second quarter with 12 of her 18 points to put the Saints up 37-31 at the break.  Charlesworth helped extend the lead to 52-43 after three quarters with 10 of the team's 15 points.
