Joliet, Ill. --- Looking to pick up its first win of the 2021 season, the University of St. Francis men's soccer team took to the field on Wednesday night against the Marian University Knights. This would be the final match for USF before opening Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play on Saturday. Despite outshooting Marian 23-7, the Saints were unable to overcome a first-half Knights' goal, falling by a final score of 2-1.
Turning Point
-
Trailing 1-0 early in the second half, the Knights made a run into Saints territory. There, James Jenkins ripped off an initial shot that was saved by USF goalkeeper Carlos Ferrer Coto. The second rebound shot was deflected initially, but was then sent into the back of the net by a Fighting Saints defender for an own goal, making it 2-0 Knights. The error proved to be the difference in the contest.
